“It’s a pleasure to volunteer. I meet a whole lot of people that I otherwise wouldn’t…it’s nice to see them down the shops and say ‘hello’”.
Most of us have been helped by a volunteer at some stage in our lives. Whether it’s on the beach when you misjudge a rip, during times of fire and flood when the SES and RFS truly come into their own, or in your local community when all you need is a helping hand getting to the doctor or picking up your groceries. In Australia, volunteering is what binds our communities together.
It takes a special kind of person to be a volunteer – but, as most volunteers will tell you, they get back as much, if not more, than they give.
Volunteering keeps you connected with your community, instilling a sense of purpose, and belonging.
Our roving reporter, Justin, wanted to learn more about being a volunteer. He caught up with LiveBetter Community Transport volunteer John Power for a chat.
At LiveBetter we’re looking for friendly people (with excellent driving skills!) to join our volunteer driver team across our NSW locations.
As a volunteer driver, you will assist customers in getting to appointments, social outings, and the shops. How much time you volunteer is completely up to you. Just a couple of hours each week can make a huge difference in people’s lives – even your own.
But volunteering with LiveBetter is not just rewarding and fulfilling. It’s also a great way to meet new people, share your skills and make a difference in your local community.
To find out more and apply, email volunteers@livebetter.org.au or call 1800 580 580. We can’t wait to hear from you!
