Carer Gateway’s All Abilities Touch Football Teams are set to battle it out this Saturday!

Check out the halftime action when Penrith Panthers take on the West Tigers at Bathurst’s Carrington Park!
15th April 2024

For the past six years, our All-Abilities Touch Football teams have battled it out under the big lights as part of the Penrith Panther’s annual Bathurst home game.

With the support of Carer Gateway, the halftime clash between the Storm and Lightning will play out again this Saturday (April 20), and following the Storms’ narrow victory last year, Lightning will be on the warpath, keen to not only equalise but to stand triumphant when the final whistle blows.

This year’s event is sponsored by Carer Gateway, a Commonwealth Government program that offers carers access to a range of services aimed at supporting them in their caring role.

There are approximately 2.65 million carers in Australia and according to LiveBetter’s Carer Gateway Program Manager Bonny Stephens, many simply, “forget to make time to take care of themselves too.”.

“ Often, they don’t see themselves as carers. They’re just children, parents, grandparents, partners, relatives, or friends who care for someone close to them.”

Carer Gateway is delighted to be able to support this year’s event, an event that brings joy to so many.

“We’re thrilled to be able to support this fantastic sporting event,” said Ms Stephens. It’s a great experience for our all-abilities teams and for their carers – their families and friends who are so proud of their achievements, and love being there cheering them on!”

The players from both teams have undertaken a hectic training schedule in preparation for this all-important re-match and look forward to running onto the field before an anticipated crowd of 10,000 people.

According to LiveBetter Disability Area Manager, Dianne Ryan, the all-abilities players can’t wait to get out onto the field for what will be a memorable life experience.

“The chance to play alongside some of the NRL’s top players is a dream come true for our team members,” said Ms Ryan.

“We can’t thank Bathurst Regional Council, the NRL, Carer Gateway and the other sponsors enough for organising and supporting an event which celebrates inclusiveness, and for giving us the opportunity to participate.”.

This Saturday’s game is set to be a huge event, so be sure to get along to Bathurst’s Carrington Park and cheer on our very own sporting legends as they show off their skills alongside the NRL greats!
