Who is the Commonwealth Home Support Programme suited to?
If you’re finding everyday tasks more difficult and think some help could improve your health and wellbeing, CHSP might be a good fit. Eligibility for the Commonwealth Home Support Programme depends on your age and support needs.
To be eligible for CSHP, you must be aged:
- 65 years or older (50 years or older for Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander people), or
- 50 years or older (45 years or older for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people), on a low income and homeless, or at risk of being homeless.
To access CHSP services, you will need to arrange an assessment through My Aged Care, which will determine your eligibility and the types of support you can receive.
How much are Commonwealth Home Support Programme fees?
Government funding for the Commonwealth Home Support Programme is paid directly to CHSP providers. Those providers then use that CHSP funding to provide their services to you at a lower cost.

What if I can’t afford a contribution?
If you can’t afford to contribute towards your care, you won’t miss out on the help you need. Providers have policies to protect those least able to contribute.

What if my needs increase while I’m on the Commonwealth Home Support Programme?
Although the CHSP is an ongoing service, it does not increase support as your needs increase. If you’re finding that you need more help than what your CHSP services can provide, you may need to be reassessed for other aged care services.
