LiveBetter is partnering with Charles Sturt University (CSU) to trial an innovative 10-week community-based program called Wellness 2 Age. The program is aimed at older Australians who wish to remain living in their own home as they age.
Wellness 2 Age is an evidence-based program designed by CSU’s Dr Kristy Robson and Associate Professor Melissa Nott. The program has had some exciting results, with past participants reporting significant improvement in cognition and physical capacity, as well as increased confidence in undertaking daily activities in the home – all essential to their ongoing independence.
Throughout the 10-week program, participants come together for an hour each week and participate in a range of activities focusing on their individual physical and cognitive challenges as well as supporting their social engagement. The program will be overseen by an allied health professional who will assess each participant before commencing the program, and after its completion – that way, we can measure and understand the program’s true impact.
LiveBetter’s General Manager for In-home Supports and Clinical Services, Helen Miller believes the Wellness 2 Age program will provide invaluable support to LiveBetter’s home care customers.
“We know that many people want to stay living in their own home for as long as possible as they age, said Ms Miller. “This holistic approach to building confidence through targeted activities will equip our customers with the tools they need to continue living safely and happily at home.”
LiveBetter’s Partnerships and Philanthropy Manager, Kellie Martin is also confident the program will deliver positive and measurable outcomes for participants.
“I’m really looking forward to seeing the results from this trial and hope we can expand the program to other regional and rural communities that may not have access to clinical and allied health services,” said Ms Martin.
The Wellness 2 Age program will initially be offered to LiveBetter Home Care customers in Orange and Wagga Wagga and is planned to commence in late June 2024.
