For the past six years, our All Abilities touch football players have run onto the grounds of Carrington Park as part of the halftime action during Penrith Panther’s annual Bathurst home game, and on Saturday afternoon, they did it again!
The atmosphere was electric when the Carer Gateway Storm and Lightning teams took to the field to decide who would be crowned victor in 2024.
And in front of an estimated 12,000 people, they did not disappoint, with both teams fighting fiercely to the end. There were some brilliant plays, but in this round, everyone was a winner, with the game ending in a 2-all draw. Well done Storm! Well done Lightning!
According to Disability Support Worker, Dakota, sport is incredibly important to many of our customers. “It’s such a great way for them to be involved with their community. A lot of them follow the NRL as well, which makes this even more special. They get to play like the players they see on TV”.
“It makes me feel amazing!” said Heidi, who has played with the All Abilities Lightning team for the past three years. “It’s such a fantastic experience playing alongside my friends and supporting my team.”
As our fierce on-field adversaries exited the field, both sides victorious, they shook hands, basking in the glow of a game well played, and a job well done!
What a great game! What a great day! A big thank you to everyone involved, and bring on the 2025 footy season when the Storm and Lightning teams get to battle it out once more!
