About the Home Interaction Program for Parents & Youngsters (HIPPY)
Children’s earliest and most powerful learning comes from their family. HIPPY offers parents the opportunity to understand and learn more about their child’s development and take an active role in their learning.
How much does HIPPY cost?
HIPPY is a free program and there are no fees or charges.
Eligibility
If you live in Orange, NSW and your child is three years old or is turning three before 31 July in the year of commencement, you are eligible to access the program.
Benefits of HIPPY
- encourages a love of learning,
- increases the likelihood that your child will enjoy and do well at school,
- promotes language, listening and concentration skills,
- build your child’s self-esteem and confidence in learning, and
- improve your relationship with your child.
Over two years, you and your child will work through weekly or fortnightly packs of play-based, educational activities. By encouraging your child to ask questions and try new things, you’ll help them grow in confidence and prepare them for a successful transition to school.
The Curriculum
The HIPPY curriculum is aligned with the Early Years Learning Framework, the Australian Curriculum and is informed by contemporary learning approaches.
Opportunities for parents
HIPPY parents have the opportunity to be employed as a HIPPY Mentor and supported in the development of their career interests through access to training opportunities.
