The Carers’ BIG Lunch series – which saw hundreds of unpaid carers from the Central West, Orana, and Murrumbidgee regions take a well-deserved break to connect, recharge, and be inspired – is set to return to regional NSW with five new events planned for 2025–2026.
Hosted by former ABC newsreader Juanita Phillips, each event will also feature special guest Australian singer and Dementia Australia Ambassador, Adam Harvey, who will share his personal caring story.
The second round of Carers’ BIG Lunch events will be held at the following locations:
- Mudgee: Wednesday, 3 September, Parklands Resort
- Broken Hill: Wednesday 5 November, The Musicians Club
- Orange: Wednesday 26 November, Banksia Orange
- Wagga Wagga: Wednesday 11 February 2026, The Gardens Function Centre
- Dubbo: Wednesday 4 March 2026, Lazy River Estate
At each event, carers will be greeted with a thoughtful gift, nourished by a two-course sit-down meal, warmed by good company, and inspired by hearing Juanita Phillips in conversation with Adam Harvey.
In addition, there will be live music, and the opportunity to learn more about the Carer Gateway Program, including a live Q&A session with the LiveBetter team.
For Griffith carer Marilyn McAuliffe, attending the Carers’ BIG Lunch served to remind her that she’s not alone in her caring role.
“The Carers’ BIG Lunch helped me to feel reassured that I’m not alone – to see that there are so many other people in the same boat.”
said Ms McAuliffe.
The team from Carer Gateway is pleased that more carers will have the opportunity to walk away from these special events not only feeling inspired and uplifted but having made some meaningful connections with other carers.
Above all, it is hoped that every carer will take away the knowledge that they too are cared for and that support is available through Carer Gateway.
This is a FREE, alcohol-free event for unpaid carers and a plus one aged over 18.
