LiveBetter acknowledges the Traditional Custodians of country throughout Australia and their connections to land, sea, and community. We pay our respect to their Elders past and present and extend that respect to all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples today.
NAIDOC Week is a time when we celebrate the First Nations Peoples of Australia and highlight the challenges that need addressing. Although NAIDOC celebrations typically take place during the first week of July, the Orange community traditionally celebrates in October, when the days are warmer, and this week saw the Orange NAIDOC Week festivities begin.
The week kicked off with a march down Summer Street followed by a large gathering in Robertson Park. The turnout was huge. It was wonderful to see so many schoolchildren, organisations, groups and businesses participating in the march and LiveBetter was once again thrilled to have this opportunity to show support for our First Nations staff, customers, and communities.
Our newest recruit, roving reporter Justin Omrod, was at the event and caught up with LiveBetter’s Philanthropy & Partnerships Manager, Kellie Martin to learn more about NAIDOC Week, and to talk about Kellie’s important work at LiveBetter.
