A new Specialist Disability Accommodation (SDA) complex is in the final stages of construction in Dubbo, NSW. LiveBetter has partnered with local construction company, Langford Regional and will deliver NDIS services to the residents in what is the first of its kind in the region.
With construction due for completion in June this year, the centrally located complex for SDA approved customers will allow residents to live a highly independent life – both at home and in the local community.
The 10-unit single storey villa complex is located on Queen Street – only a short distance to local amenities, such as the Dubbo Cultural Centre, train station, local shops, cafes and eateries.
The property has been carefully designed with every aspect centred around people with disability, including giving people the option of who they live with. For example, a young bloke who has had a spinal injury could live there with one of his mates; parents could live there with their daughter who has a disability and so on.
According to Briette Parish, Executive General Manager of Disability Services at LiveBetter, the new development presents an exciting and unique opportunity to the people of regional NSW.
“We are really excited about this partnership and the opportunities created for people with disability to live in this purpose-built accommodation setting. The property is unique because it’s the first time people with a disability will have the option to choose their housemate, which could be family,” said Ms Parish.
The villas will each have two bedrooms and one bathroom. Here’s a snapshot of some of the features:
- Each master bedroom can be modified to suit individual needs e.g. the installation of a ceiling hoist or an electric bed
- Vinyl, non-slip floors – specifically chosen for wheelchair traction
- Accessible bathroom to allow for mobility aids
- Sensor operated doors (no need for worrying about house keys and door handles)!
- Height adjustable kitchen benchtops
- Call buttons for additional support or medical assistance
- On site parking in front of each villa for direct access
