Many young people living the community help to care for a family member or friend who is aged or who has a disability or chronic illness, mental illness included. Often the role is taken on not by choice but by necessity and the pressure added to these young people navigating childhood and teenage years is not always recognised.
With the new school year just around the corner, the Commonwealth Carer Respite Centre, an Australian Government initiative managed by LiveBetter Community Services in the Central and Far West regions of NSW, can provide support to young carers with education costs including school excursion expenses, sport fees and equipment, and other school activities that might add extra pressure on the family budget.
If you are a young carer, or have a young carer in your family, please contact the Commonwealth Carer Respite Centre in Central West and Far West (Broken Hill region) NSW to discuss your needs on 1800 052 222. Back to school support is just a phone call away.
