Recently Bathurst Machattie Park was taken over by the annual Bathurst Regional Council’s winter festival, the hugely popular event catering for people of all abilities.
This year the festival had two excited LiveBetter participants from Transition to Work (SLES) and Community Access Program, who were employed by Bathurst Regional Council to work at the festival.
The two ladies, Lara and Brianna, assisted with ticketing, hiring of ice skates, skating aids and clearing the ice after each session. They clearly had a fantastic time working for council. Clare Plunkett, Coordinator Disability Services in Bathurst said that both girls loved the experience and came back with huge smiles of their faces!
These opportunities are priceless as they enable young go-getters like Lara and Brianna to develop workplace skills, improve their communication and so much more.
“The Chance to have paid employment has allowed Lara and Brianna to feel like a valued member of the community and to experience what it’s like to be paid for the work they do,” said Clare.
Not only does it mean so much to our customers who receive these awesome opportunities, it also means a great deal to LiveBetter staff who support their customers in reaching their goals.
“It makes me so proud to see Lara and Brianna tackling these opportunities head on and gaining lifelong skills. Without programs like these (Transition to Work (SLES) and Community Access) and Bathurst Regional Council’s passion for inclusion, the girls might not of had this opportunity,” said Clare.
LiveBetter was thrilled to once again partner with Bathurst Regional Council to provide ice skating sessions for people with disability and their families in a safe and supportive environment.
