Tip # 2: don’t forget Transport
We all rely on transport to get to work, to social activities, to medical appointments, to the shops and to get home again. It is so routine that we don’t stop to think how limited we would be without accessible transport. Transport enables greater independence and participation in many aspects of community and family life.
So make sure ‘Transport’ is part of your NDIS plan!
Think about all the places you go as part of your weekly routine as well as other times you use transport. Discuss how and when you use transport with your NDIS planner.
A participant will generally be able to access funding through the NDIS for transport assistance if the participant cannot use public transport without substantial difficulty due to their disability. This funding can be used to pay for community transport, taxis, or other types of transport.
State government run Taxi Subsidy Schemes provide discounts on taxi fares for people who meet the eligibility criteria. Taxi subsidy schemes can be used in conjunction with your NDIS transport funding.
